Our writing approach inspires a love of writing and builds stamina, pride, and creativity through engaging, purposeful teaching that amplifies vocabulary and deepens understanding. Aligned with the DfE Writing Framework, we ensure fluent transcription and secure grammar so every child can focus on the quality of their writing and express ideas with confidence and clarity.

Intent

  • Develop a positive attitude and stamina for writing.
  • Foster a love of writing with pride in published work.
  • Build skills through creative, inspiring teaching and clear learning outcomes.
  • Ensure children focus on the quality of their writing.
  • Use questioning effectively to deepen thinking about content.
  • Amplify vocabulary instruction to enrich expression.

 Implementation

Â·  High-quality texts inspire teachers and engage pupils.

·   Progressive writing assessment frameworks ensure skills build year-on-year.

·   Word Power approach amplifies vocabulary across the curriculum.

·   Writing is purpose-driven, not genre-driven, to ensure relevance and authenticity.

·   Structured CCC approach underpins writing:

  1. Collect – Explore texts, analyse WAGOLLs, and gather rich vocabulary.
  2. Connect – Model and manipulate sentences, develop ideas, and apply grammar and punctuation.
  3. Create – Draft, edit, and publish high-quality writing with embedded feedback.
  • Daily Trio Time (SPaG) lessons in KS1 and KS2 feed directly into writing sessions.
  • Read Write Inc phonics and writing programme in EYFS and KS1 ensures secure foundations in transcription, letter formation, and purposeful early writing.
  • Opportunities for mark-making and purposeful writing in provision areas encourage independence and creativity.

Teachers assess and adapt teaching for all groups of learners, specifically providing extra targeted support and challenge for SEND, pupil premium and our most vulnerable children.
