SEND and Inclusion
What to do if I think my child has Special Educational Needs?
If you have a concern about your child this should be raised with the class teacher, they will then discuss these concerns with the Special Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) and it is then monitored.
Our SENDCo is Mrs Carol Logan-Meredith and her contact details are c.logan-meredith@elevatemat.org
Our SEND Point of Contact in school is Mrs Stephanie Fenney and her contact details are sfenney@southkilvingtonacademy.org
The Elevate SEND Link Trustee is Hannah Stenton.
We will arrange a review meeting if this is appropriate. Within school we will keep a register of those children receiving additional Special Needs support. All children who require any additional or different support to access the curriculum or school community are monitored and recorded on this list. This is reviewed and updated termly, by the class teachers and the SENDCo.
As a trust we have a SEND HUB Strategy which enables SENDCo's to work across the trust schools.
Our SEND HUB Strategy offer is tailored to the needs of children in the trust and aims to:
- Ensure all schools have access to high quality, dedicated SENDCo time, including small and new schools joining the trust
- Develop Trust practices regarding SEND and ensure consistent application, including assessment and stages of SEND in line with the graduated approach, and provide opportunity for moderation to support this process
- Enable increased opportunity for collaboration and sharing of skills expertise, and resources for the benefit of all Trust schools, linked to the continual growth and development of specific expertise, to ensure the trust can effectively support the full range of SEND
- Enable Trust wide SEND CPD
- Provide cost effectiveness/ value for money
- Provide a local provision which maximises the benefit of the skills and expertise across the Trust for children
Support you can access as a family:

Inclusion
At South Kilvington C of E Academy, inclusion is not simply a feature of our provision, it is a defining characteristic of our ethos, leadership, and daily practice. Inclusive values are deeply embedded and consistently drive strategic decision-making, curriculum design, and pupil support. Our inclusive culture is sustainable, embedded, and demonstrably impactful, going well beyond statutory expectations to influence practice across our Trust and the wider educational community. Our inclusive approach ensures that all pupils, particularly those with SEND, those known to social care, those facing socio-economic disadvantage, and those with protected characteristics, are safe, respected, and empowered to thrive. Inclusion is not an add-on; it is woven into the fabric of our school.
Our inclusive practice is characterised by:
· Exceptionally high expectations for all learners, including those with complex needs or significant barriers to learning. · Early, accurate identification of need, followed by robust cycles of planning, action, and review, ensuring timely and effective support. · A highly ambitious and accessible curriculum, adapted meaningfully to ensure all pupils engage with high-quality learning and achieve well. · Pupil voice and family partnership are central to our provision, with collaborative decision-making that reflects the lived experiences of our community. · Strategic deployment of external expertise, including our strong partnership with the Elevate Multi-Academy Trust’s SEND Hub, which provides specialist advice, CPD, and peer collaboration to raise standards across schools. · A research-informed pupil premium strategy, with clear evidence of improved outcomes and enriched experiences for disadvantaged learners.
There is clear, sustained evidence of transformative practice that has improved outcomes and life chances for our most vulnerable pupils. Our inclusive ethos is reflected in every aspect of school life, from leadership and governance to classroom practice and enrichment. We maintain a well-established network of collaboration across the Trust, enabling us to share best practice, refine provision, and contribute to system-wide improvement. Our staff are highly skilled, reflective, and committed to continuous professional development in inclusive pedagogy. Inclusion at South Kilvington is about celebrating diversity, promoting equity, and enabling every child to live life to the fullest. We are proud of our inclusive community and remain committed to sustaining and evolving our practice to meet the highest standards and ensure exceptional outcomes for all. |
