Drumba
At South Kilvington C of E Academy, our weekly Drumba sessions form a distinctive part of our curriculum offer, enriching both Music and PE, and making a significant contribution to pupils’ personal development, wellbeing and physical literacy.
Drumba is a high-energy fusion of music, rhythm, movement and fitness, designed to motivate all children to participate, regardless of confidence. It supports our school’s vision for confident, resilient, healthy learners.
Intent
Our intent is to:
1. Promote Health, Fitness and Physical Wellbeing
Drumba provides sustained access to vigorous physical activity within a structured musical context. Its high-energy routines improve stamina, strength, coordination and cardiovascular fitness. This aligns with our promotion of healthy, active lifestyles.
2. Strengthen Musical Skills and Creative Expression
Through rhythm work, performance, drumming techniques and coordinated movement, Drumba enhances pupils’ musical understanding, timing, listening and ensemble skills while making music learning accessible and highly engaging.
3. Build Confidence, Self-Esteem and Positive Attitudes Towards Activity
Drumba aims to inspire all children to take part in exercise and have fun while doing so. It reinforces inclusive participation, building pupils’ confidence and supporting positive attitudes to physical activity and self-expression.
4. Support Mental Wellbeing & Emotional Regulation
The combination of rhythm, movement, high-energy activity and collaborative performance contributes to improved mood, reduced stress and increased motivation, aligned with the school’s commitment to promoting wellbeing and reducing barriers to participation.
5. Develop Character, Teamwork and Social Skills
Pupils build cooperation, communication and shared responsibility by performing synchronised routines. This supports the development of character traits such as resilience, determination, teamwork and discipline.
